One metre grading 12 per cent vanadium, 30 per cent lead and 10.5 per zinc. That’s what explorer Golden Deeps (ASX:GED) has just uncovered at the historic Abenab open pit mine in Namibia. As a point of reference, a good vanadium deposit might grade ~1 per cent V2O5. Those lead and zinc grades ain’t nothing to sniff at either.

The Abenab Vanadium Mine is near Otavi, Namibia. The Abenab Vanadium Mine is a underground mining operation. Mine operations consist of underground workings. There is one known shaft. The ore body is pipe-like in shape of unknown dimensions.

Initial production was 30 to 80 tonnes of high-grade vanadium ore, recovered by blasting and hand-sorting. The Abenab Project contains an Inferred Mineral Resource of 2.80Mt @ 0.66% V 2 O 5 (vanadium pentoxide), 2.35% Pb (lead), 0.94% Zn (zinc) at a 0.2% V 2 O 5 cut-off (announced January 2019). The Project comprises three key areas – the surface mineralisation and tailings (from previous production), the existing previously producing open cut mine and potential underground workings. • 1958: Closure of Abenab West. Total production from both mines was 1.85Mt at 1.03% V 2 O 5 . • 1958: Berg Aukas Mine starts production. • 1978: Berg Aukas ceases operation after producing 1.6Mt at 0.77%V 2 O 5.

Once it is completed, the company will drill additional exploration targets identified near the Abenab mine, at the Nosib Mine and other locations along the 40km Abenab mineralised trend.

Golden Deeps has also identified additional targets for exploration at the Nosib Mine, near the Abenab mine and other locations along with the 40km Abenab mineralised trend, which is planned to be drilled following the completion of the current drilling program.
